Installing as an app and working offline
In brief
Statable is a web page that behaves like a program. On the first visit the browser stores all files; afterwards Statable starts immediately and also works without internet. Your data never leaves your computer.
Installing
- Chrome and Edge: an "Install" icon appears in the address bar (or menu → "Install Statable"). You then get your own window and an icon in the dock or on the desktop.
- Safari on the Mac: File → "Add to Dock".
- iPhone and iPad: Share button → "Add to Home Screen". Android: menu → "Add to Home screen".
New versions
When a new version exists, Statable fetches it in the background. If it arrives in the first seconds after start, the page reloads itself; otherwise it applies the next time you open it. Projects are kept. To be safe, save to a file first (see "My data and saving the project").
Example
Before an exam or on the train: open Statable once with a connection, load an example and run a calculation. Afterwards it also works offline, help included. Methods that need R (for example the multilevel model) are stored only after their first use.
Offline version to download
For exams and computers that may never go online: Settings → "Without internet" → "Download ZIP". The package contains the whole program including R and a small server that can only be reached on this computer. Unzip it, then double-click "Statable starten (Windows).bat" or "Statable starten (Mac).command"; LIESMICH.txt explains the steps.
Not recommended for regular use: the offline version is not updated; improvements and bug fixes only reach statable.eu. The bar at the top always shows which day it is from.
