Data check

On opening, Statable checks the data and shows what stands out. Each item can be confirmed or fixed:

• Merge spellings: "female", "Female" and "f" would otherwise be three groups. "Merge" unifies them, "Leave as is" keeps them.
• Unusual values: very small or large values (possible outliers or typos). "Keep value" confirms them.
• Suspected placeholders: values such as 99 can mean "no answer". "Treat as no answer" excludes them from the calculation.
• Empty cells: are left out of the calculation; "understood" confirms.

The check does not replace a check of content: whether an unusual value is an error depends on the research question.
